THE UMF GRADING SYSTEM

We use the UMF grading system as it is the most complete and the highest grading system for Manuka Honey. The UMF Honey Association (UMFHA) performs authenticity tests on the honey to ensure it has not been tampered after export, so you can feel assured of the Manuka Honey you buy.

Only honey that passes the New Zealand's government Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) Manuka Honey Science Definition, qualifies to carry the UMF logo.

You can easily verify the UMF certification on a Manuka Honey label by checking the brand’s licence number on the UMF website:  https://www.umf.org.nz

The higher the UMF number, the higher the quality of Manuka Honey.

Low Grade:  UMF5 to UMF9

Medium Grade:  UMF10 to UMF15

Superior High Grade: UMF16+

Examining Crops

A checklist to determine genuine UMF Manuka Honey:

  • It has the UMF logo and grading number on the label

  • The honey has been produced, packed and labelled in New Zealand

  • The New Zealand brand / company is licensed by UMFHA (see the UMFHA website)

  • The label states the licensee’s brand/company name and license number
